MERIDIAN, Miss.鈥擜s a public health practitioner in East Central Mississippi, Brittney Mosley knows firsthand the power of grant support in transforming communities.

鈥淔unding is the catalyst. It sets the tone for developing impact,鈥 said Mosley, who has made Meridian her home for 13 years. 鈥淲ithout funding, the process is harder. It鈥檚 more tedious to get to the next level.鈥

A few months into her new position as program manager at 91传媒-Meridian, Mosley, originally from Clinton, has defined the trajectory of grant writing and proposals that will ultimately benefit communities in Mississippi and beyond.

鈥淎s the university positions students to fill crucial roles in education, healthcare and more, these research and outreach grants will propel our programs to new levels,鈥 she said. 鈥淭he result creates a ripple effect that empowers communities and creates lasting change.鈥

David Buys, associate vice provost for Health Sciences and interim head of campus, said 91传媒-Meridian鈥檚 initiative to create more awareness of potential grants, and to help facilitate grant writing, is an organic step in its growth evolution. 聽聽

鈥淚n moving toward the future, we are embracing the long-established history of securing financial support from many types of grant sources that have been set by our Starkville campus,鈥 he said.

Grant writing is a learned skill, Mosley said. She works with faculty and staff to find appropriate grants, write grant applications and assist with budgeting funds and meeting milestones.

Leading the 91传媒-Meridian faculty and staff professional development series Connecting What Matters, Mosley said university personnel can look forward to upcoming events geared toward capacity building, understanding the university鈥檚 engagement plan, grant writing and budgeting.

鈥淭hese are grants that align with the university鈥檚 purpose and focus on research impact,鈥 she said.

She is currently awaiting the result of two recently written grants, one in healthcare, and the other in social services, she said.

鈥淚 encourage our faculty and staff to give it a try,鈥 she said. 鈥淭here are so many resources out there, so many grants that are obtainable with a bit of effort. I鈥檓 here to facilitate that.鈥
